1. Keyword Phrases: Gone are the times when you could easily get ranked for a single keyword. Now, more than ever, it is important to keep an eye out on the specific phrases that people are using to search for things. Try to think of how you would find some on the internet. If you were looking for something would you type 1 keyword or a phrase? Example: My dog has ticks. Would you search for "ticks" or "how to remove ticks".
2. Content: Good content that is relevant is and will always be king in Google's eyes. Their mission is to provide the content you want with your searches. And they penalize copied content and reward fresh new unique content. Content is KING.
3. Local Search: Places your site/eCommerce page in local area searches could prove huge in your sales. Place you site in as many local searches as possible. Examples: Google Places, Yahoo, etc.
5. Link Building: A good link building strategy is a must for getting your websites ranking high in the search engines. Look at my white hat vs black hat post for that.
6. Crawl Frequency: Content that has not been crawled has a less likely chance of being ranked in the search engines. It is important to monitor your cache logs to see how often the pages on your website are being crawled. I still recommend leaving this a Google's default but if you have a page that needs to be crawled more you should take action.
7. Site Speed: You may not notice, but how fast your site loads can make a big difference in the amount of traffic that you get. Google has stated in it's pod casts on YouTube that this is a part of their ranking algorithm. Here is a link to Google's webmaster help channel on YouTube
